S1602G1GFI is Atlas's mainstream 16-port PoE access switch for mid-size surveillance and network access projects: 16 auto-sensing 802.3af/at PoE ports for cameras and APs, 2 Gigabit RJ45 uplinks plus 1 Gigabit SFP slot for a fiber backhaul option, and a 200W total power budget with up to 30W on any single port. It is available in a compact desktop enclosure or a 19-inch rack-mount chassis with mounting ears -- both share identical electrical specs, so the choice comes down to what cabinet the installation site actually has.

  • Not a managed switch -- no VLAN segmentation, spanning-tree, or web management interface. Choose a managed model if the project needs VLANs or loop-prevention protocols.
  • No ring-network redundancy protocol -- built for star, tree, and bus topologies, not self-healing ring recovery.
  • -10°C to +70°C is a commercial temperature range, not an industrial wide-temperature rating -- for extreme outdoor cabinets, look at Atlas's industrial DIN-rail line instead.

How many IP cameras can the S1602G1GFI power?
With 200 W across 16 PoE ports you get 12.5 W average per camera; typical IP cameras draw 4–12 W, so a full 16-camera CCTV job fits the PoE budget. Any port can deliver up to 30 W under IEEE 802.3af/at, and automatic smart detection means a non-PoE device plugged in takes no harm.
What does the watchdog do, and how reliable is the unit?
The watchdog resets the switch automatically if it ever locks up — recommended when it carries HD camera loads around the clock at unattended sites. Manufacturer MTBF is 50,000 hours, the fanless metal case is IP30 rated, and the operating range spans −10 °C to +70 °C for hot equipment rooms.
What is the difference between the desktop and rack versions?
Electrically they are identical: 16 × 10/100 M PoE ports, 2 gigabit RJ45 uplinks, 1 gigabit SFP slot and the 200 W budget. The compact unit measures 240 × 170 × 44 mm and supports desktop or wall mounting; the rack version adds 19-inch mounting ears. Choose by the cabinet the site actually has.
What uplinks does it have for connecting to the NVR?
Two 10/100/1000Base-T RJ45 uplinks plus one 1000Base-X SFP slot. Use copper when the NVR is nearby, or fit an SFP module for a fiber backhaul when the head-end sits beyond the 100 m copper limit. Switching capacity is 18.2 Gbps with 13.54 Mpps forwarding and an 8K MAC table.
How far can a camera be, and what power input does it take?
Standard segments run 100 m. PoE Extend mode stretches a port to 250 m with that link reduced to 10 Mbps — enough for one far gate camera. Power is a built-in DC 52 V 3.85 A supply on AC 176–264 V input, with reverse-polarity awareness handled by smart PD detection. PoE pinout is Mode A.
