Overview

The S802GI pairs 8 Fast Ethernet PoE ports with 2 Gigabit RJ45 uplinks in a compact fanless case -- the switch most installers reach for on a straightforward 8-camera job. No single IP camera fills a 100Mbps link, but eight streams converging on one uplink can, so the Gigabit backhaul keeps the NVR feed smooth even at full load. Built-in IEEE 802.3af/at PoE+ powers the cameras directly off the same cable, and the optional 250m Extend mode reaches the one camera that's always too far from the panel. Choose the 96W S802GI for typical loads or the 120W S802GI, which adds a watchdog auto-reset, for PTZ or IR-illuminated cameras.

Is This the Right Fit?

Six real deployment scenarios matched to this model's actual datasheet specifications.

Convenience StoresFront door, checkout counter and backroom stock on 8 fixed cameras, one uplink to the office PC.
Small RestaurantsDining room, kitchen pass, cash register and back door on 8 fixed cameras feeding one NVR.
Small WarehousesDock doors, aisles and the loading yard gate on one switch near the office.
Village Internet CafesRows of PCs plus the entrance camera on 8 ports, extend mode reaches the door camera at the far wall.
Rural ClinicsReception, corridor, pharmacy window and entrance on 8 cameras, quiet fanless case sits behind the front desk.
Gas StationsForecourt pump islands, cashier kiosk and entrance/exit lanes on 8 ports, Gigabit uplink to the office NVR.
Not a good fit if:
  • Not a managed switch -- no VLAN segmentation, spanning-tree, or web management interface. Choose a managed model if the project needs VLANs or loop-prevention protocols.
  • No ring-network redundancy protocol -- built for star, tree, and bus topologies, not self-healing ring recovery.
  • Commercial -10°C to +70°C rated in a desktop/wall-mount metal case without 19-inch rack ears -- not for extreme industrial wide-temperature sites or standard 19-inch rack rows.

8-Port PoE Switch FAQ — S802GI

How many IP cameras can the S802GI power?
All 8 PoE ports can run cameras at the same time. With the 120W version that averages 15W per camera — typical IP cameras draw 4–12W, so a full 8-camera CCTV setup is well within budget. A single port can deliver up to 30W for PTZ or heated housings.
Is it compatible with 802.3af and 802.3at cameras?
Yes. The S802GI supports both IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at on every PoE port, with automatic powered-device detection that protects non-PoE equipment plugged into the same port.
How far can it send power and data — does it support 250m PoE?
Standard Ethernet reaches 100m. In PoE extend mode the S802GI reaches up to 250m over Cat5e/Cat6, with that port's link speed reduced to 10Mbps — still enough bandwidth for a typical single camera stream.
Will 8 cameras overload the uplink to my NVR?
No. The two 10/100/1000M RJ45 uplinks give the backhaul gigabit headroom, so eight Fast Ethernet camera streams converge without bottlenecking on the way to the NVR or core switch.
What is the difference between the 96W and 120W versions?
Same case and ports; the 120W high-power version adds a bigger PoE budget plus a watchdog that auto-restarts a frozen camera by cycling its PoE power — useful for remote CCTV sites you cannot visit often.
Does this fanless PoE switch need an external power adapter?
No adapter needed — the power supply is built in (DC 52V 2.3A, AC 176–264V input). The metal case is fanless and silent, rated IP30, works from -10°C to +70°C, and mounts on a desktop or wall.
